John Skiles Skinner

Hello! I'm John, a software engineer, technical generalist, and writer.

Currently I work for the US government as a consulting engineer and project leader at 18F; we make government websites work better for the public. In the past I have been manager of software engineering at Unite Us, a software developer at Cornell University Library, and a startup cofounder. I care about transparency: open source, open data, and open knowledge.

You can find my writing in The Washington Post, Salon, 2600 Magazine, Seeing Red Nebraska, Queerantine Zine, on my blog, and on Wikipedia, where I have written more than 50 articles. With friends I run carhenge.club, a Mastodon instance.

I live in Oakland, California with my partner, Misha. We have some houseplants.
