John Skiles Skinner

Hello! I'm John, a software engineer, technical generalist, and writer.

Currently I work for the US government as a consulting engineer and project leader at 18F; we make government websites work better for the public. In the past I have been manager of software engineering at Unite Us, a software developer at Cornell University Library, and a startup cofounder. I care about transparency: open source, open data, and open knowledge.

You can find my writing in The Washington Post, Salon, Seeing Red Nebraska, Queerantine Zine, on my blog, and on Wikipedia, where I have written more than 50 articles. With friends I run carhenge.club, a Mastodon instance.

I live in Oakland, California with my partner, Misha. We have some houseplants.
